Job Description

SEXUAL VIOLENCE PREVENTION & A (BL-SVPA-IUBLA)

The Confidential Victim Advocate (CVA) provides support and assistance to students who have experienced sexual harassment or misconduct. Students who been victims of sexual misconduct (i.e. sexual assault, harassment, dating/domestic violence, sexual exploitation and stalking) often have difficulty continuing their education and graduating due to the impact on the students' physical and psychological well-being, and may have difficulty attending classes and meetings, completing their coursework, accomplishing daily tasks, and may need assistance with immediate safety concerns. The CVA is intended to act as a central point of contact for students dealing with the effects of physical or sexual misconduct and assist with providing interim measures as required by the Office of Civil Rights under Title IX.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve as a central resource for students impacted by sexual harassment or misconduct, providing confidential support, guidance, and referrals.
  • Promote student safety and well-being, assist with academic and administrative concerns, and collaborate with campus partners to ensure compliance with Title IX and trauma-informed practices. Contribute to training initiatives and compliance reporting and offer after-hours crisis support.
  • On a case-by-case basis, help address any academic or administrative issues or concerns, provide support and information about campus resources and the campus judicial system, support student health and safety by providing timely and appropriate referral information, and address other university related issues, as needed.
  • Partner with campus and university officials in the implementation of training for faculty, staff, and other university employees in the use of trauma-informed practices in the application of Title IX policies and procedures. In collaboration with the confidential victim advocate team, perform environmental and outcome assessments and maintain and compile data relevant to campus compliance with federal regulations.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support to students impacted by sexual violence. This may include, but is not limited to emails, after hours phone calls, and serving on a 24-hour crisis line.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services and act as central point of contact for students who have experience sexual, physical, or other misconduct.
  • Conduct situational analysis and provide assistance and counseling to improve clients' social and psychological conditions.
  • Assess safety concerns, provide an overview of campus resources, and provide immediate and ongoing assistance to students in need.
  • Help guide students through procedures for various issues (requesting grade changes, withdrawing from classes, housing concerns, academic or administrative appeals) and provide assistance to ensure that students receive interim measures.
  • Assist students with establishing a support network of family, friends, and community resources and creating personal development plans.
  • Identify and connect students to campus and community resources (direct or indirect referrals); accompany students to informal or formal meetings with instructors or administrators as needed/requested.
  • Review university policies and procedures with students. Review procedures for investigations, judicial hearings, appeals, etc.
  • Maintain case records in a secure and confidential manner, maintains statistics, and administer ongoing program evaluations.
  • Serve as a member of the sexual violence prevention and advocacy team, providing outreach and raising awareness about prevention and advocacy services provided by the department.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling or social work

Preferred

  • Master's degree in counseling or social work

Required

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 1 year of experience working with survivors of sexual or physical assault (preferably in a counseling or advising capacity)

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. $49,000.00 - $51,000.00 annually

8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
