Description: The Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) supports deaf and hard of hearing students by facilitating clear and effective communication among students, peers, teachers, and school staff. This role involves interpreting classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities while also reinforcing lessons. Additionally providing tutoring when needed. The interpreter collaborates with teachers and specialists to implement IEP accommodations, assists with orientations about deafness and sign language, and helps ensure the functional use of hearing devices. When not actively interpreting, the SLI may provide general classroom assistance or instructional support. The position requires professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families. Work hours may occasionally include evenings or weekends to support school-related activities.
